Who Rooster is

Rooster is Starbreed’s high-skill specialty ally: a penetrative laser that spawns durable ghost ships on kills, stacked into a fleet if you spend Thrust on purpose. English VO credits list Sorry (SorryVA). Boss design even mirrors Rooster-like beam / clone ideas on Brisk in Zol’gan content, which is why learning Rooster’s verbs makes Boss Guides easier to read. Community 100% writeups call Rooster’s Impregnation Trial the hardest of the crew set. Itch players echo that Pix can feel easy while Rooster feels brutal. Plan a dedicated evening; do not sandwich her gold attempt between two chip hunts.

Unlock

Rooster arrives later than Lana / Tanya tutors, once the campaign is comfortable throwing clone and beam language at you. Follow Levels. She is a romance-capable party member, not only a boss motif.

Combat kit

Active — penetrative laser + ghost ships. Each qualifying kill can leave a ghost that keeps shooting. Mid-Trial / mid-stage, brake and fire the laser into dense groups to spawn a fleet, then hug safe screen edges and let ghosts clear flooded tunnels. This is the opposite of Pix’s “do not blow the pack early”—Rooster wants a spent Thrust bar converted into bodies.

Passive — HP drain when Thrust hits zero. Empty boost is not a slap on the wrist; it eats Will / HP instead of waiting for a refill. Assertion from Resolve and Assertion is almost mandatory if you play her as a carry. Resolve still helps because the drain is real. Hybrid Aether is the honest build: enough recharge to avoid accidental empty, enough HP to survive one mistake.

Q / E discipline on Abilities is “spend early, then live on the fleet,” not “save the laser for the last second.”

Trial gold: 300

Rooster gold is 300, the highest listed crew target (Nova’s mandatory trial is a different mini-game at 32). Damage hits still deduct 10. Spend Thrust early, brake at midpoint, laser the dense groups, then edge-hug while ghosts work. Full table: Trial Scores.

If you fail, check whether you hoarded Thrust (passive punished you) or wasted the laser on empty air (no fleet). Those are different fixes.

Party and bosses

Rooster is C-to-A on Allies Tier List depending on player skill. She is a poor learning-shell pick beside Lana. She is an excellent specialty pick when a stage or boss already speaks clone / beam language—Brisk on Zol’gan, late tunnels, anything that rewards piercing more than spray.

She is not Finale2’s default heal. Keep Siren for the Nova rush. Rooster can sit in a flex slot only if your MITE Drones and generator already cover dodge DPS.

Credits Shop weapons that pierce or home (MITE Drones) complement her; they do not replace the ghost fleet.

Affinity

Track 0 / 25 / 50 / 75 / 100 on Affinity Checklist. Because her combat is demanding, many players delay her field time until they have Assertion online—then her talks lag. Mix easy farm stages with one Rooster slot so the ladder moves without requiring a 300-gold mindset every sortie.

Common mistakes

Flying Rooster with empty Assertion, treating empty Thrust as “just wait,” and attempting Trial gold before you can keep a ghost fleet alive for ten seconds on a normal stage.

Fleet rehearsal

Before the 300-gold attempt, fly a late tunnel and require three ghosts before the boss. If you cannot, you are not ready for the Trial’s flooded ending. Practice spending Thrust on purpose, then flying on the leftover fleet. Brisk on Zol’gan is a useful midterm: reflective fields punish spray, piercing rewards Rooster-like discipline.
