Starbreed Allies Tier List
Who earns a party slot on tough stages
Ranking philosophy
This allies tier list ranks Starbreed party members for stage clears and boss comfort in the released 1.0 game. Romance preference is sacred—but when Zol’gan patterns start reflecting lasers, you need honest combat grades. Pair this page with Affinity Guide so you still field bond targets on easier farms.
Tiers assume default keyboard play from Controls, mixed Resolve/Assertion Aether, and at least one solid shop weapon (Credits Shop. EX passives from Impregnation Trials can promote characters—re-rank after Trials.
Tier overview
S — Universal starters
Kits that shorten learning curves on unique bosses and still leave room for one Affinity flex slot. Typically strong peel or delete actives plus passives that never feel wasted.
A — Specialist carries
Shine on particular stage types (swarm-heavy neon cities, cavern chokepoints, jungle clutter). Slightly narrower than S but excellent when the stage matches.
B — Affinity-first heroes
Bring them to hit 25 / 50 / 75 / 100. Combat is fine on replays; swap out for Finale attempts until EX upgrades land.
C — Situational
Need specific weapons, high player skill, or post-Trial passives to justify a slot over safer options.
Exact name placements shift with patches—verify tooltips and skim Patch Notes. Use Roster for cast identity and Abilities for role tags.
Evaluation checklist
- Active impact on boss phases (Bosses)
- Passive value across a full stage, not only the highlight reel
- Synergy with Assertion mobility vs Resolve tankiness (Aether)
- Opportunity cost versus your current Affinity goals
- Post-100 EX ceiling
Sample thinking (names as examples)
- Pix / Lana style early partners: high Affinity routing value; combat tier depends on your comfort stage.
- Tanya / Nika style kits with upgraded actives: watch for A–S potential once you learn timings.
- Pom: chip synergy makes her valuable for completion routes even when raw DPS is middling.
- Rooster-like utility: specialty tags can spike on bosses that mirror their tools.
- Nova: respect boss identity separately from party ranking debates.
How to use tiers without being miserable
Run 2 combat pillars + 1 bond target until 75–100 Affinity, then reconsider. Mirror plans in Party Comps and Party Planner. Weapons page: Weapons Tier List.

Re-ranking cadence
Re-rank after: a new unlock, a Trial EX passive, a weapon purchase that changes roles, and any patch that touches actives. Do not re-rank because one death felt unfair—re-rank after three controlled attempts with pause literacy on.
Write a one-line “why S” note per top ally. If you cannot explain the slot beyond vibes, they are probably Affinity-tier for you right now, and that is fine.
Flex slot science
The third slot is where Starbreed’s dating sim wins. Use it for the ally closest to a threshold unless the boss gimmick forbids it. Promoting flex slots into permanent combat pillars is how EX passives reshape the list over a week of play.
Keep the list honest
Revisit this allies ranking after every Trial and every major shop purchase. An S-tier peel ally can fall to A if your weapon already covers their job, and a B-tier romance partner can jump after EX passives. Compare notes with Weapons Tier List and Party Comps instead of treating any single chart as law.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common Starbreed questions.
Should I bench my favorite for S-tiers?
Only on walls. Farm Affinity on easier stages with favorites, then swap for brutal bosses.
Do EX passives change tiers?
Yes. Re-evaluate after Impregnation Trials.
Are tiers spoiler-free?
They avoid scene spoilers and ending plots. Ability roles are fair game.
Is this for demo or 1.0?
Written for the released game; demo footage is only mechanical reference elsewhere.
Where do weapons fit?
See the Weapons Tier List—allies and guns multiply each other.
Can gamepad players use the same tiers?
Yes. Roles do not change; only your aim comfort does.
