What Affinity is

Affinity is Starbreed’s per-ally bond meter. Bring characters into your party, complete their conversations, and watch the meter climb through published thresholds: 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100. Those gates unlock dialogue branches and affinity scenes. At 100, Impregnation Trials become available and upgraded EX passives enter the power fantasy. This page stays spoiler-safe: unlock rules only, no graphic adult descriptions.

Affinity is not the same as Aether’s Resolve or Assertion. Those are protagonist stats under the Aether tab. Affinity is about Lana, Nika, Tanya, Pix, and the rest of the romance-capable roster.

How Affinity rises

Party inclusion. Fielding an ally during stage clears is the backbone. If you forever run a “meta only” trio from the Allies Tier List, your favorite mid-tier partner will starve. Rotate intentionally using the Party Planner.

Conversations. Dialogue sets are split by Affinity requirements (0 / 25 / 50 / 75 style gates). Finishing a conversation has historically granted a flat Affinity bonus (developer notes cited +4 style bumps). Do not skip hub talks.

Story / planet progress. Earlier builds capped Affinity around 49 until a planet’s second level was cleared, then raised the cap to 100. If you feel soft-locked under 50–100, push Levels Walkthrough progress before grinding talks.

Affinity versus clear power

Starbreed is honest about tension: the ally who melts Molbon trash might not be the ally whose Affinity you need tonight. Solutions:

• Farm Affinity on easier stage replays.
• Bring one bond target plus two combat pillars.
• After EX passives unlock, yesterday’s “mid” ally may jump tiers—revisit Tier List Hub.

Scenes and tone

Marketing cites 40+ H-scenes across the project. On this wiki we call them adult scenes or affinity scenes. Unlock them through systems; do not expect walkthrough pages to narrate them. Female Aether’s scene coverage is framed as lighter side content compared with male Aether in developer commentary—plan expectations via Aether Guide.

Common Affinity mistakes

1. Ignoring conversations after every clear.
2. Assuming Credits shopping raises bonds (it does not—see Credits Shop).
3. Confusing Pom Data Chip rewards with Affinity (parallel track—Data Chips).
4. Never checking caps after new stage unlocks.
5. Saving all romance for post-credits (you will miss power from EX passives).

Routing template

Early campaign: raise two allies to 25–50 while learning Controls. Mid campaign: push a primary partner toward 75–100 while keeping combat viable via Party Comps. Late campaign: finish Trials, collect chips, and chase Endings flags.

Conversation hygiene

Open the hub after every meaningful clear. If a conversation prompt is available, finish it before shopping pinups. Flat Affinity bonuses attached to talks are easy power—and easy to forget when you are staring at a new weapon.

Multi-ally nights work if you rotate intentionally: one stage for Partner A, the next for Partner B, while a combat babysitter keeps deaths low. Document gates on the Affinity Checklist so you never wonder whether you already cleared the 50 talk.

Affinity and boss nights

Boss practice nights are allowed to bench romance targets. Just label them in your notes so you return to the bond plan within a session or two. Starbreed’s loop collapses when “temporary” combat parties become permanent neglect.
