Starbreed Data Chips Guide

What Data Chips are

Every Starbreed level hides a Data Chip. Collecting them feeds Pom-related perks and extra content—including additional adult scene rewards framed as pixel or bonus material in development posts. Chips are a completionist track layered on top of story clears and Affinity. This guide explains how to hunt them without spoiling exact puzzle solutions for every stage.

Where to look for hints

Developer notes are clear: hints for each chip appear in the H-scene room. If you are stuck, return to the hub’s scene space and read the tip before rage-replaying a stage blind. Combine that with movement mastery from Controls—some chips need boost paths, brake timing, or barrel-roll routes rather than raw shooting skill.

Hunting workflow

  1. First clear the stage for story and Credits (Levels Walkthrough).
  2. Read the chip hint in the H-scene room.
  3. Replay with a mobility-friendly loadout (Assertion helps recharge—Resolve and Assertion).
  4. Mark the stage on the Data Chip Checklist.
  5. Note any Pom reward unlocks as they appear.

Why chips matter

  • Pom content and perks
  • Replay value after you already know boss patterns (Boss Guides)
  • A reason to master lanes instead of only tanking with Resolve
  • Parallel progress while you farm Affinity on easy stages

Chips are not a substitute for Credits shopping (Credits Shop) or Trials (Impregnation Trials). They are the exploration pillar.

Stage mindset examples

Without dumping spoilers: cavern stages may hide chips off the obvious center lane; jungle routes may gate chips behind breakable objects or delayed spawns; neon city paths may require surviving until a late branch. Galaxy map progression simply unlocks which chip you are allowed to attempt next—see Walkthrough Hub.

Party tips for chip runs

Bring utility actives that delete clutter so you can look at the environment (Abilities). If a chip sits behind a damage check, consult Weapons Tier List. If it sits behind a survival check, lean Resolve and defensive passives from Allies Tier List.

Common failures

  • Trying to chip-hunt during a first blind boss fight
  • Ignoring H-scene room hints
  • Confusing chip rewards with Affinity thresholds
  • Forgetting Linux/Windows path differences do not change chip logic—only performance might (System Requirements)

Replay routing details

Pick a planet you already understand and commit to finishing its chip before unlocking three new stages. Breadth-first exploration creates a backlog of half-remembered hints. Depth-first chip closure keeps Pom rewards flowing and your checklist honest.

Bring a mobility-leaning Aether when the hint implies off-lane movement. Bring a clutter-delete active when the hint implies busy geometry. If you die to the boss while chip hunting, you violated the workflow—solve the boss on a combat shell, then return.

Pom reward patience

Some rewards unlock after multiple chips, not after the first pickup. Log totals on the Data Chip Checklist so you notice thresholds. Do not confuse a new Pom perk with an Affinity gate; they can arrive in the same hub visit and still be different systems.

FAQ

How many Data Chips are in each level?

One hidden Data Chip per level, according to the feature design.

Who benefits from Data Chips?

Pom-related rewards and content. Other systems stay separate.

Are chip locations spoiled here?

We describe methods and hint sources, not a full coordinate dump for every stage.
