How to read Starbreed tiers

Tier lists on this wiki are practical clear tools, not personality rankings. Starbreed mixes rail-shooter loadouts with dating-sim Affinity, so an ally can be “S-tier for bosses” and still be someone you rotate in purely to push conversations toward 50 or 100. Rankings assume the released July 30, 2026 build on Steam and itch.io, single-player only, English voice, ~$10.99 price point.

We split tiers into three pages so you can argue apples with apples:

  • Allies Tier List — active/passive impact across early, mid, and late stages.
  • Weapons Tier List — primary weapon archetypes bought with Credits, including burst tools like MITE-style drones when available.
  • Party Comps Tier List — full shells for learning stages, Affinity farming, and finale-grade bosses.

Ranking criteria

Survivability: Does the kit help you eat laser walls on stages such as Raptura, Molbon, Neos, Titas, or Zol’gan without burning every boost charge?

Pressure: How fast do bosses melt once patterns stabilize? Unique bosses are a Starbreed selling point—tiers reward kits that create safe damage windows.

Affinity efficiency: Can you keep romance targets onboard without griefing the clear? Pair with Affinity Guide and Affinity Checklist.

Economy: Credits spent on weapons should pay rent. See Credits Shop Guide.

Aether synergy: Assertion-heavy pilots want boost-friendly shells; Resolve-heavy pilots lean tankier. Read Resolve and Assertion.

What tiers are not

They are not moral judgments about characters, and they are not spoilers for endings. Adult scene quality is out of scope—we never rank “best scenes.” If two allies feel equal in combat, pick the one you still need for Affinity milestones or Impregnation Trials EX passives.

How often tiers change

Demo patches (windowed resolutions, Assertion thrust-recharge tuning, Impreg trials, Data Chips) already taught the community that balance moves. After 1.0, re-check Patch Notes when a balance note lands, then revisit weapons and comps.

Suggested workflow

  1. Clear a stage with a comfort party from Getting Started.
  2. Check Allies for upgrades that do not ruin your Affinity plan.
  3. Spend Credits using Weapons guidance.
  4. Lock a shell in Party Comps and mirror it in the Party Planner.
  5. Revisit bosses via Boss Guides.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common Starbreed questions.

Are Starbreed tier lists objective?

They are informed opinions based on clear speed, safety, and Affinity flexibility. Your favorite character can still be correct for your save.

Should I ignore low-tier allies?

No. Bring romance targets for Affinity even if they are mid-tier in combat, then swap for hard bosses.

Do weapon tiers assume max upgrades?

We note budget versus fully funded loadouts. Early Credits should buy reliability before luxury pinups.

Will Female Aether change tiers?

Form mainly ties to Resolve gates and appeal; combat tiers still hinge on party abilities and weapons more than presentation.

Where do I plan a custom party?

Use the Party Planner tool page, then sanity-check against Party Comps tiers.
