This page answers the questions people actually posted after Starbreed launched July 30, 2026—on itch comments, Steam discussions, and store pages—without turning the wiki into a spoiler novel. Starbreed is a single-player 18+ 3D rail shooter × dating sim by RegulusNSFW, published by Mango Party. Steam app 2694020, about $10.99. As of 20 August 2026, Steam user reviews sit at Very Positive (235 positive / 8 negative, 243 total). itch still ships Starbreed v1.0.2 PC and Linux zips. There is no multiplayer and no redeemable codes economy.
Can I play as a girl?
Yes. You start as Male Aether. Raise Resolve by clearing missions and spending points on the hub Aether tab. Around 50 Resolve you unlock Female Aether. Form swap is not a palette swap: the credits list a separate performer (Mimi Hung), and developer notes describe a smaller but real Female Aether scene set plus Brothel access. Read Aether, Resolve and Assertion, and Brothel. You do not need Female Aether to beat the first Finale as Male Aether. You do need it for several completion flags.
Is there impregnation? Are there pregnant scenes?
Impregnation Trials exist after 100 Affinity per ally and grant EX passives. That is a combat-power track as much as an adult unlock. Gold scores the UI hides are on Trial Scores.
On itch, 18 days after launch, developer RegulusNSFW answered a direct question: there are no H-scenes while characters are actively pregnant—just impregnation. Do not buy the game expecting a pregnancy-visual-novel chapter. Treat Trials as the mechanical follow-through, then stop. This wiki will not describe trial animations. Primer: Impregnation Trials.
How prominent is futa content?
itch commenters described one optional futa character and mentioned a possible in-game toggle. Dating that character is optional. This wiki does not rank adult scene types. If a toggle exists in your build, use it; if you are unsure, check Options before raising Affinity on a kit you only wanted for combat. Combat roles stay on Abilities.
Steam is banned in my country. Is itch the real game?
Yes. Steam Germany metadata marks the title banned on that storefront. itch.io sells the full campaign as Starbreedv1.0.2PCStandalone (~770 MB) and Starbreedv1.0.2LinuxStandalone (~777 MB). Same ~$10.99 price. Steam achievements, Steam Cloud, and the Artbook DLC (4932900) stay Steam-side. itch is the legitimate regional fallback, not a demo. See Troubleshooting and System Requirements.
Is there a native Linux version?
Yes. itch ships a Linux zip. Steam lists Linux requirements (Ubuntu 16 minimum line, GTX 1060-class GPU). There is no Mac depot on the live Steam API. DualSense / DualShock flags are Steam features; the verbs are still on Controls and Controller.
Where do Resolve and Assertion come from?
They are Aether stats, not hidden drops. Complete missions, open the Aether tab in the lobby, allocate points. Assertion leans boost / thrust recharge and masculine appeal. Resolve leans max HP / Will and feminine appeal. Demo veterans still miss the tab. Full page: Resolve and Assertion.
How long is the game? Is 100% one day?
Several itch buyers said they 100% in a dedicated day. Steam threads asked “general length.” Treat that as story plus unique bosses in an evening or two if you already like rails, and extra nights for Trial golds (Rooster 300 is the brutal one), Data Chips, Brothel reputation, and Tanya buyout. There is no multiplayer to pad hours. Calendar: Completion Route and Deluxe.
Is there an official soundtrack?
Not as a confirmed store SKU as of 20 August 2026. Composer credit: Wishful Simping. A Steam thread titled “OST?” had no official upload. Details: Soundtrack.
Will there be DLC or a sequel?
Unconfirmed. August 2026 comments asked for more Pix / Rooster content, more Female Aether scenes, and a sequel. The public itch full-game page has no dated 1.1 roadmap. The Artbook is optional PDF DLC, not extra stages. Deluxe Edition.
Data Chips feel too late. Is that intended?
itch players noted chip bonuses feel back-loaded (useful Affinity perks later, Pom rewards last) while Affinity itself can feel fast. Play around that: solve bosses first, then hunt chips with Data Chip Locations. Do not wait until everyone is at 100 Affinity to start collecting.
